Founded in 2011, Jacobsen Salt Co. has since transformed from a local, small business to a nationally recognized brand as America’s leading salt maker. Harvested from the cold, pristine waters of Netarts Bay on the Oregon Coast, Jacobsen salts have garnered worldwide favor for their beautiful presentation and pure taste.
When I designed Jacobsen Salt Co.’s original branding and packaging (right) in 2011, Ben Jacobsen was still operating out of a shared kitchen, trekking vats of water from Netarts Bay all the way to Portland. He wanted a brand and packaging that reflected the fresh, clean flavor of hand-harvested sea salt, and the back-to-basics, traditional process. My goal was to show off the product– beautiful, big, crystalline flakes– with a clear bag and minimalist label.
Over the next several years, I applied the brand across new product lines and partnerships. Jacobsen Salt Co. has become one of Oregon’s most recognizable local food brands.

Currently in development, Züngo is a software solution for parks and recreation departments to manage fitness and other recreation programs.
In collaboration with Brewhouse Media, I worked with a small team to develop brand strategy, visual branding, UX and content strategy, and visual design for the Züngo app. My goal was to create a design that is clean, contemporary, and playful. “Beautifully designed” should refer to the user flow and architecture as much as the how the final product looks.

Otter Wax produces all-natural fabric care, leather care, and apothecary products. They take pride in what they make, which is why Otter Wax products are all handmade using only the highest quality ingredients. All products are produced in small batches by a skilled team here in Portland.
When I began working with Otter Wax, I collaborated closely with the company’s founder, Chris, to create a branding and packaging strategy that would reflect their straightforward, natural appeal. Chris wanted to create packaging that anyone could relate to–from a rancher in pursuit of a shinier saddle to a hipster looking for a glossier beard. We stuck with natural materials and tactile printing processes (screen printing and letter press) to create packaging that would look equally at home in a mercantile store and an upscale boutique.

AllGo is a review app where plus-size people rate the comfort and accessibility of public spaces so others can know what to expect. We help people of size go out more, with less anxiety.
I worked with the team at AllGo to produce graphics that were printed on t-shirts, mugs, pillows, and beach towels. The products are sold on AllGo’s site as a passive income stream for the platform. Our goal was to create graphics that people would be proud to wear, as opposed to a simple logo tee.

Regalis Foods was founded in 2012 by then 18-year-old Ian Purkayastha. They began by sourcing truffles, caviar, and wild foraged goods to top Michelin starred restaurants in New York City.
Today Regalis Foods has blossomed into one of the nation’s most respected luxury food purveyors.
Where possible my goal with Regalis’ packaging was to highlight the natural beauty of the truffle products, with clear jars and bottles, and labels screen printed directly onto the glass. Beginning with initial branding and a base product line of oils and vinegars, I have worked with Regalis over the past six years on developing packaging for their ever growing product line. This has included new packaging types, like shakers of popcorn salt and caviar tins, as well as collaborations, co-branding and private label packaging.

The Original Fare is a food adventure show that airs on PBS. Original Fare’s stories cut through the foodie movement to make a slice of American authenticity accessible to all.
I created a logo and illustrations for the Original Fare’s title screen and other branded collateral. Key words for the branding were unpretentious, adventurous, bold, and hands-on.

Chroma is a new kind of marketplace for local and impact investing. Our open source technology helps businesses, loan funds, charitable foundations, and investors join together in the future of impact investment.
Chroma Fund is a revolutionary concept on the cutting edge of financial technology. They needed their website and visual branding to clearly explain their service without alienating the small business and new investors who might easily be intimidated by the concept.
My goal was to create a site and brand that felt new and exciting, while using warm color scapes to help users feel at ease while interacting with the brand through the website or promotional materials.

Scopic is an easily browsable database that helps Portland’s agencies and other hirers find and connect with creative freelancers who will be right for the job, and passionate about their projects.
I worked on Scopic from its inception. I collaborated on naming, product design, visual assets, copy, and all strategic decisions to create a strong brand that was easily expressed with clear guidelines. I designed the Scopic web app based on extensive market research, positioning, competitive analysis, and stakeholder interviews.
The goal was to appeal to Portland’s unique local market by appearing both professional and approachable, as well as creating a platform that was intuitive and easy to use.

Anabaglish creates rustic, natural, vintage inspired bags. Their leather and canvas handbags are born in the Pacific NW and handcrafted by artisans in India.
Anabaglish was the name of the founder’s ancestors’ farm in Southern Scotland, and later the name of her grandparents’ farm in Southern Oregon. It was important to Mia, Anabaglish’s founder, that the branding reflect the history and heritage of the name, as well as the global collaboration that makes the company possible today. My goal with the branding and associated collateral was to show that femininity can be soft and strong at the same time.

Tacoma 2025 is a strategic plan and vision for improvements to the city of Tacoma’s infrastructure, economy, and community. The Plan is a result of the community’s desire to create a shared vision for a shared future and represents the input of over 2,000 engaged residents, community and business partners, the Mayor, Council Members and City staff.
Tacoma 2025 needed a standalone website where users could digest easily see the plan, understand its impact, and engage with city officials. I worked to create a streamlined content strategy and information architecture with small pieces of digestible content. I chose colors and typography that would complement the city of Tacoma’s official brand color palette, while also looking forward to the bright future that Tacoma 2025 promises.
